I Got Stoned and I Missed It ...

... Sang Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show! GEORGE CUMMINGS, Jr. assembled and named the band in 1969. For the next six years he played electric & steel guitar and sang the bass voice parts on their recordings and world wide concerts.

Some other hits recorded by George and the band include: "Cover of the Rolling Stone", "Makin It Natural", "Penicillin Penny", "Rocks Off", "Gumbo Man" and "Slow Suicide". Over the years, the Dr. Hook Band has been awarded close to 50 Gold and Platinum records!

George was born in Meridian, Mississippi - the son of an Alabama mountain man and a Louisiana Cajun mother. Growing up in a musical crossroads area, he absorbed the styles of white country music, black rhythm & blues, cajun swamp sounds and big band jazz.

Feeling artistically unfulfilled, George departed Dr. Hook to travel the long lonely songwriter's road to success. He moved to Nashville, TN, collaborating with some of the best writers & session players in town.

During that period (1980), Anthony was in his senior year at MTSU (Murfreesboro; 1/2 hour south of Nashville) when he met a fellow student,
[ Ken Hatley & Associates,Inc. - Artist Promotion - Orlando,FLA],
who still keeps in touch w/ both regularly. They played in a band called the Raven, which hired George. The band broke up, but G & A continued to play duo and in many studio recordings.

Try this next link, a recipe for Gumbo Soup, & click for a taste of George's song they all recorded in Nashville about south Louisiana and its unique cuisine:
' THE GUMBO MAN ' .
{George has continued to develop his * Songs of Life}

Also, here's a sample of George's :
' SLOW SUICIDE '
which was recorded in concert by Anthony with a 30-voice Gospel Choir in Norway on the
'LOST & FOUND' CD.

P.S. The summer of 2004, I visited George, who's hanging out at Lonnie Mack's log cabin/studio near 'Music City' -- We had more boogie sessions in June & July of 2005, so stay tuned!
Also, Kenny & his SOULFUL Gospel-singing wife, Donna, were gracious hosts at their 120 year old southern mansion near Orlando...hope to include some of his brilliant blues harp on the next project. ("Kill Bill" was his latest music score)

* Happy Birthday=G turns 70 in July,2007! WoW!
IN THE WORKS is a CD of 1/2 dozen unreleased of GEORGE's songs we recorded in Nashville 'way back when'...These are among his most insightful I've been involved with- PLUS, George sings Slow Suicide & The Gumbo Man!!

sing-cerely,

Anthony
